It's the Control Key

Do you realize the IBM-compatible PC has been around for about 20 years now?
TWENTY years! That's an entire generation of people with an available PC.

So how is it that some users still don't know what the Control key is?

Back in 1993 it never entered my mind that the person on the other end of the phone might actually know what the Control key was or actually know where it was located on a keyboard. I still have memories of "Now press Ctrl-Alt-Del. You will find Ctrl on the lower left corner of your keyboard, the Alt very near the Ctrl key and use the Del key near the numeric keypad." I said it so many times it reminds me of the KMart closing announcement.
It seems like some time around 1999 when I stopped saying it. A user actually told me he KNEW where the Control, Alt, and Delete keys were. Color me embarrassed.

So I overhear this tech's side of a conversation:

Yeah, just reboot.
Yeah, press Ctrl-Alt-Del.
Control.
No, the Control key.
On your keyboard.
No, it probably is not labeled "Control". It probably has C-T-R-L.
Still don't see it?
Look in the lower left of your keyboard.
No, the left of your keyboard.
Lower left.
No, that wavy-4-squared-symbol key is the "Windows" key. It should be next to that.
Ahh... Good. Yeah, press Ctrl-Alt-Del.
Oh dear... The Alt key.
Look on the other side of the "Windows key.
Yeah, the wavy-4-squared-symbol key.
Great! You got all three? Great!
Yeah, press all three at the same time.
Did that work?
No? Hmmm, try holding all three down.
Yeah. Now let go.
There. Good job.
No, Mom. It should come back up on its own.
Amazing... Simply amazing.
