Patience is a Virtue

The person that said that never worked in Tech Support.

Let's run through a hypothetical scenario -- You send an email that has a standard legal disclaimer automatically attached by the email server. The disclaimer has the phrases "sexually explicit" and "pornography" buried deep inside. Suddenly, out of nowhere, the email recipient's email server blocks your message because of the phrases found in the disclaimer and sends a notification email that reads:

Your message was blocked. An automated email content filter has determined that your email message contains inappropriate language. If you believe this is in error, please reply to this message so your email can be reviewed and released.
Now I'm not usually a betting man, but I'm willing to bet $10 to say you would read that notification, reply to it and get your message released. Right? I'm also willing to bet you aren't a rocket scientist or a high-paid lawyer. In fact, I would think that any third grader would read that, reply and get the message released.

So why does it take two lawyers, two secretaries, and an administrator to figure out what needs to be done to get a simple email released? I personally know two of those people, and they are not mentally challenged in any way. They are both two of the brightest people I know. Yet none of the five people actually read the notification message and understood its meaning or its directions. This one notification email generated TWELVE more emails back and forth between these five people and one had to call tech support before the original email message was finally released.

And people wonder why I weep for the future...

Sometimes in order to get through to people, you have to sit them down and read it out loud with them so it sticks to that remote part of the brain that we like to think of as "COMMON SENSE"

I bet the future's gonna be fine, but it's the third graders that will be running it.

Here's your sign...
